Seattle University softball lost to Oregon State by a score of 13-9 at Kelly Field on Saturday afternoon, April 25. The Redhawks battled back after an early deficit but were unable to overcome the Beavers in the final innings.

The game saw strong performances from several Seattle U players. Senior Ava Sin led the team with three hits and two runs in four at bats, while senior Brooklyn Jones contributed two hits, including a double, as well as two runs and two RBI. Freshman Aurora Zepeda drove in three runs with two hits—including a triple—and scored twice herself. Senior Taylor Fitch also had two hits and one run.

On defense, graduate Jay Ross tallied seven putouts from first base and Zepeda recorded three assists between second and third base. In pitching, junior Avari Morris started for the Redhawks and pitched one inning with one strikeout. Junior Ellie Bostedt, sophomore Maya Mesa, and freshman Kaia Galaviz each added strikeouts during their time on the mound.

Seattle U totaled 12 hits for its 21st double-digit hit performance of the season. The game was marked by multiple lead changes: Oregon State opened with a two-run homer before Seattle U tied it up in the second inning. The Beavers then surged ahead with seven runs in their half of the second inning to lead 9-2 before Seattle U answered back with five runs in the third.

Despite efforts to close the gap—including an RBI triple from Zepeda and an RBI single from junior Sophia Kissling—the Redhawks could not overtake Oregon State’s offense late in the game.

Seattle University is scheduled to return for the series finale rubber match at noon on Sunday at Kelly Field.
