Seattle University softball lost 8-7 to the University of San Diego on May 8, after rallying from a seven-run deficit at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.

The Redhawks trailed by as many as seven runs but managed to close the gap, holding San Diego scoreless in the final four innings. The game was significant for senior Ava Sin, who recorded her 20th double of the season, tying Seattle University’s single-season program record set by Madison Cathcart in 2018.

Sin led three Redhawks with multi-hit performances and drove in two runs. Senior Taylor Fitch and graduate Jay Ross also had two hits and two RBI each. Junior Avari Morris scored three runs, matching her career high, while junior Sophia Kissling added two runs. In the circle, sophomore Maya Mesa pitched 4.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts. Freshman Kaia Galaviz started for Seattle U and struck out one batter over 1.2 innings.

Defensively, Ross led with five putouts at first base and Fitch contributed three assists. The Redhawks took an early lead when Sin doubled home Morris in the first inning before San Diego responded with eight runs in the second frame.

Seattle U chipped away at that lead throughout the middle innings but ultimately fell short as San Diego held them off in their final opportunity at bat. The teams are scheduled to meet again for their regular season finale.
