Seattle University softball lost to Santa Clara 7-2 at Logan Field on May 1, in a game that lasted over two and a half hours.

The game was notable for strong performances from several Redhawks players. Junior Avari Morris and freshman Aurora Zepeda each had two hits, with Morris also recording an RBI. Sophomore Abbie Fales added another hit for Seattle U, while senior Brooklyn Jones scored both of the team’s runs.

Defensively, Zepeda led the team with five putouts. Morris and graduate Jay Ross contributed four putouts between them at left field and first base. In pitching, junior Berkley Vance started the game and pitched four innings. Morris came in for two innings, facing seven batters and striking out three. Junior Ellie Bostedt closed out the final inning.

Santa Clara took an early lead with a run in the first inning. The Redhawks tied it up in the second when Morris drove in Jones with an RBI single. However, Santa Clara responded by scoring five runs across the third and fourth innings to make it 6-1 through four frames. The Redhawks managed another run when Ross grounded out to third base, allowing Jones to score again.

No further runs were scored until Santa Clara hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to seal their victory at 7-2.

Seattle University is scheduled to play its next game as part of Mental Health Awareness activities on Saturday at Logan Field.
