Seattle University softball lost to Idaho State, 9-1, in the series finale on March 22. The game ended after five innings in Pocatello, Idaho.

The loss came after a defensive contest between the Redhawks and the Bengals. Seattle University now holds a record of 14-13, while Idaho State improved to 23-13.

Sophomore Maya Mesa led the Redhawks with her first collegiate hit and run scored. Senior Ava Sin and junior Mikee Morris also recorded hits, with both Morris and Mesa stealing bases during the game. Mesa started as pitcher for Seattle U, throwing three innings and striking out a career-high four batters. Junior Ellie Bostedt pitched one inning in relief and struck out two more batters.

Defensively, junior Karen Spadafora had six putouts to lead the team. Graduate Jay Ross contributed three putouts from first base, while sophomore Abbie Fales added two from right field. Mesa, Morris, and senior Taylor Fitch each had an assist during the contest.

Idaho State broke an early tie with a five-run second inning. Seattle U responded in the third when singles by Mesa and Morris set up stolen bases for both players; Mesa scored the team’s only run. Despite another strong inning from Mesa on defense in the third, Idaho State added four more runs in the fourth to secure their win.

Seattle University will begin a new three-game series against Montana starting tomorrow.
