Seattle University softball lost a close game to Loyola Marymount University, falling 2-1 in eight innings at Logan Field on April 17. The Redhawks, now with an overall record of 18-22 and a West Coast Conference mark of 4-3, were edged by the Lions (26-15, 3-4 WCC) after the visitors scored the winning run in extra innings.

The game was marked by strong performances from several Seattle U players. Junior Avari Morris led the team with two hits, extending her hitting streak to five games and recording her third triple of the season. Morris also scored Seattle U’s only run in the bottom of the third inning and contributed three putouts from left field.

Freshman Aurora Zepeda matched Morris with two hits, tying her season high. Zepeda also set a new career best with three assists at shortstop during her second consecutive start. Senior Ava Sin added another extra base hit for Seattle U with her fifteenth double of the year, while graduate Jay Ross drove in Morris for an RBI single and led defensively with eight putouts at first base.

Junior pitcher Berkley Vance threw all eight innings for Seattle U, facing 34 batters and allowing just one earned run while striking out two—a new season high for innings pitched.

Despite out-hitting LMU six to five, Seattle U committed three errors compared to none by LMU. The Redhawks are now five wins and seven losses when making two or more errors this season.

LMU tied the contest late with a solo home run before scoring again off a Redhawk error in extra innings to secure victory. Seattle University will face LMU again on Saturday during Bark in the Park festivities.
