Seattle University softball will host its final home series of the season against Santa Clara, with festivities planned throughout the weekend and a celebration for four Redhawk seniors on Sunday, according to an April 30 announcement.
The weekend holds significance as it marks the last time seniors Jay Ross, Brooklyn Jones, Taylor Fitch, and Ava Sin will play at Logan Field. Events include Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, Little League Day, Mental Health Awareness activities, and Senior Day.
Taylor Fitch has been a key contributor for Seattle U’s offense this season. The senior ranks seventh in the West Coast Conference (WCC) with a .372 batting average and leads the team in home runs with 12—tied for fourth all-time in program history. Fitch is also third in the conference for runs batted in (RBIs), recording 49 over 45 games.
Ava Sin stands out as an extra-base hitting specialist. She leads the WCC and is tied tenth nationally with 18 doubles. Sin also sits eighth in league batting average at .370 through 42 games and has achieved a career-best 51 hits this season while ranking third all-time at Seattle U for doubles in one year. Her RBI total of 42 places her fifth among conference players.
Jay Ross maintains a .327 batting average over 44 games—amongst the top-20 hitters in the WCC—and has contributed defensively with sixth place in league putouts at first base. Brooklyn Jones rounds out the senior group; she has started every game this season primarily at second base and logged notable defensive stats including ranking among WCC’s top-25 for assists and putouts.
Junior Avari Morris currently leads both Seattle U and conference batters with a .428 average (61st nationally) along with tying fifth most hits ever recorded by a Redhawk after reaching her current total during their recent Oregon State series. Morris is also effective as a pitcher, having thrown more than seventy innings so far this year.
Freshman Kaia Galaviz anchors pitching efforts from the circle while junior Berkley Vance adds depth to pitching staff statistics; junior Karen Spadafora supports from behind home plate ranking fourth among conference catchers for putouts.
The Redhawks lead several offensive categories within their conference including team batting average (.319), total hits (407), doubles (80), RBIs (246), and rank highly nationwide for doubles per game played. Seattle U holds an all-time record of eleven wins to four losses against Santa Clara since they began meeting regularly starting from 2012; they have won their last five matchups including most recently on Santa Clara’s field last year.
