The Seattle University women’s tennis team concluded its season on Apr. 18 with a match against the Portland Pilots in Portland, Oregon.
This final duel marked the end of the Redhawks’ first year competing in the West Coast Conference. The match featured notable performances from senior Lola Tavcar, who won her singles match after dropping the first set, and fellow senior Larissa Teramura, who was leading in her unfinished third set when play ended.
Lamija Avdic also stood out for Seattle University by defeating Portland’s top-seeded player in straight sets, securing her fifth singles win of the season. Despite these individual successes, Seattle ultimately fell to Portland by a score of 4-2.
In doubles competition, Avdic and Michta lost their match 6-4 to Rubio Perez and Galatescu of Portland. Nazarenko and Tavcar’s doubles contest was left unfinished at 3-5. Teramura and Yazadzhiev were defeated by Canubida and Pearson with a score of 6-0.
For singles play, Avdic defeated Rubio Perez (6-3, 7-5), while Radulova beat Michta (6-4, 6-4). Arbaizar Martinez overcame Nazarenko (6-2, 4-6, 6-2), and Canubida won over Yazadzhiev (6-3, 6-4). Tavcar secured a comeback victory against Pearson (1-6, 6-3, 6-0), while Teramura’s match against Galatescu was unfinished but saw her ahead after winning the second set.
The conclusion of this match brings an end to Seattle University’s inaugural West Coast Conference campaign.
