Six members of the Washington Huskies women’s softball team received all-conference postseason honors from the Big Ten Conference, according to a May 8 announcement. Alexis DeBoer and Giselle Alvarez were both named to the All-Big Ten First Team, while Morgan Reimer earned a spot on the Second Team.
The recognition highlights the strong performances by several Huskies players during the season. DeBoer, last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year, was also selected for the league’s all-defensive team in addition to her First Team honor at first base. Melody Acevedo and Kaycie Burdick were chosen for the All-Freshman Team in their debut seasons with Washington, and Tia Durst was recognized as Washington’s Sportsmanship Honoree.
Burdick led Washington with a .375 batting average during her freshman year and maintained a perfect fielding percentage in both center and right field. She started 48 out of 52 games played, recording 57 hits including seven doubles, one triple, one home run, and a grand slam. Burdick also had 30 runs batted in (RBI) and drew 20 walks over the season. Alvarez followed closely with a .374 average while leading her team in hits (68) and RBI (53), along with slugging .692 and hitting a career-high of 15 home runs.
DeBoer added to her accolades by leading Washington with 18 home runs this season and achieving a team-high .731 slugging percentage. She also topped her teammates with 36 walks—seventh most among players in the conference—and was included on USA Softball’s Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List at the start of this year.
Reimer posted an earned run average (ERA) of 2.75 alongside a record of 23 wins and seven losses—the second most victories by any pitcher in this year’s Big Ten competition. Acevedo made an immediate impact after earning her starting role at shortstop partway through her freshman campaign; she started in nearly every game she played while maintaining a .353 batting average.
Looking ahead, these individual achievements set up high expectations for next season as several honorees return to compete again for Washington.
