Sounders FC played to a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City on May 2, extending their unbeaten run in Major League Soccer play to seven matches. Paul Rothrock scored early for Seattle at Children’s Mercy Park, while Dejan Joveljić equalized for the home side in the first half.

The result keeps Seattle in fourth place in the Western Conference with 20 points and a record of six wins, one loss, and two draws. The club has conceded only five goals this season, which is tied for the fewest allowed in Major League Soccer at this point.

Rothrock’s goal was his fourth of the MLS regular season and sixth across all competitions, making him Seattle’s top scorer so far. Head Coach Brian Schmetzer made only one change to his starting lineup from last week’s match against FC Dallas, bringing Cristian Roldan back into midfield after he cleared concussion protocol.

Seattle started strong with Rothrock scoring just two minutes into the match. However, Sporting Kansas City responded quickly when Joveljić found the net in the 18th minute. Both teams had chances throughout but could not break the deadlock after halftime. The game saw cautions issued to Jackson Ragen and Hassani Dotson of Seattle.

The Sounders will now return home for a three-match homestand beginning on May 9 against San Diego FC at Lumen Field. The team aims to continue its positive momentum as it faces three games over eight days.
