Sounders FC announced on April 4 that it has signed midfielder Peter Kingston to a First Team contract through the 2026 season, with club options extending through June 2027 and the 2027-2028 season. Kingston, who progressed through the Sounders FC Academy and most recently played for Tacoma Defiance, joins the Rave Green after advancing through several levels of Seattle’s soccer system.

The signing highlights Sounders FC’s commitment to developing local talent and promoting players from within its ranks. General Manager & Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel said, “We’re excited to sign Peter to the First Team and are proud of how he’s shown continual growth within our system. He is another strong example of the development pathway we’ve built at this club. We’re looking forward to seeing Peter continue that progression with our group.”

Kingston, age 24, joined Tacoma Defiance prior to the 2025 season and made significant contributions during his time there. Last year, he appeared in 26 matches (24 starts) for Tacoma in MLS NEXT Pro play, scoring two goals and providing six assists. He also participated in all four of Tacoma’s matches in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup during 2025—scoring against Oakland Roots—and made an appearance for Seattle’s First Team against Real Salt Lake on October 11, 2025. In early 2026, Kingston started all three games he played for Defiance and featured in three matches for Seattle’s First Team—including starting roles against San Jose on March 15 and assisting both goals versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Concacaf Champions Cup action on March 18.

Before turning professional with Tacoma Defiance, Kingston had a collegiate career split between Seattle University (45 appearances from 2020-22) and Washington (two years). As a fifth-year senior at Washington in 2024, he scored six goals with five assists across twenty-one matches.

Head Coach Brian Schmetzer said: “Peter has earned this contract through the work he’s put in every day. He’s been consistent in training, taken coaching well and made the most of his opportunities with both Tacoma Defiance and the First Team. He’s stepped in with confidence when called upon and shown he belongs at this level. We’re excited to fully integrate him into our group and see how he can continue to help the team.”

Kingston also played locally for Ballard FC from 2022-24 where he helped secure multiple championships including scoring a game-winning goal during their USL League Two title run.
