Sounders FC and the Royal Belgian Football Association announced on May 8 that the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse in Renton will serve as the base camp training site for the Belgium National Team during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The facility, which is home to Seattle Sounders FC, will provide Belgium with training sessions and access to coaching, medical, performance, and equipment resources throughout the tournament. All three of Belgium’s Group Stage matches are scheduled on the West Coast, including their opening game against Egypt in Seattle on June 15.

The announcement highlights Seattle’s growing role in international soccer and brings global attention to its facilities. Hosting a prominent national team like Belgium reflects both local investment in sports infrastructure and increasing engagement with major world events.

“It’s an honor for Sounders FC to welcome the Belgium National Team to the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse as their base camp for the FIFA World Cup 2026,” said Taylor Graham, Chief Integration Officer for Sounders FC & Reign FC. “This moment isn’t just about hosting Belgium – it’s about the world coming to Seattle and experiencing what we’ve built here. One of the best teams in global football choosing our clubhouse as their home says everything. This club, this city, this facility – it’s all part of a football culture that belongs on the global stage.”

Vincent Mannaert, Sports Director of Royal Belgian Football Association, said: “We are very pleased to establish our base camp at the world-class facilities of Seattle Sounders FC. The Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse offers everything our team needs to prepare at the highest level for a major tournament like the FIFA World Cup 2026. This collaboration reflects our shared ambition for excellence, innovation and performance. We are confident that the professional environment in Seattle will provide ideal conditions for our players and staff to focus, perform and represent Belgium with pride on the world stage.”

The Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse opened in 2024 after extensive renovations of Boeing’s former corporate offices and now covers over 50,000 square feet across two floors. It includes four full-sized pitches—two grass and two turf—and amenities such as locker rooms for multiple teams within Sounders FC’s organization; a fitness center; recovery rooms featuring sauna facilities; cold tub; hot tub; cryotherapy chamber; film rooms; meeting spaces; coaching offices; all designed with sustainability features including cork infill turf fields.

Peter Tomozawa, CEO of Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 Local Organizing Committee said: “We are thrilled to welcome Belgium to Washington State. The Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse in Renton offers everything a top-tier national team needs… Now Emerald City gets to be Belgium’s home away from home as they compete on pitch at Seattle Stadium.” He added anticipation about sharing local culture with visiting players and fans.

Belgium is set for its fifteenth appearance at a FIFA World Cup after finishing third at Russia’s tournament in 2018. Drawn into Group G this year alongside Egypt (June 15), Iran (June 21), New Zealand (June 26), matches will take place across cities including Seattle.

Previously hosting United States Women’s National Team before its friendly against Japan last month—and Argentina’s River Plate during last year’s FIFA Club World Cup—the facility continues building its reputation among elite international soccer organizations.
