Sounders FC lost 2-0 to the LA Galaxy on May 17, ending a nine-match unbeaten run in Major League Soccer play. The match took place at Lumen Field, where Seattle had not lost in any competition since June 23, 2025.
The defeat marks a significant moment for Sounders FC, as it ended their club-record home unbeaten streak of 22 games across all competitions and a regular season home unbeaten run of 14 matches. The result leaves Seattle in fourth place in the Western Conference with a record of seven wins, two losses, and three draws.
Gabriel Pec scored for the Galaxy in the first half and Matheus Nascimento added another goal during stoppage time. For Seattle, Sebastian Gomez made his club debut after coming on as a substitute in the second half. Head Coach Brian Schmetzer rotated his lineup following Wednesday’s win over San Jose Earthquakes.
This was only the third time this year that Sounders FC allowed more than one goal in a match. Saturday’s contest marked the 42nd meeting between Seattle and LA Galaxy during MLS regular-season play, making it one of the most frequent matchups in club history.
Seattle now prepares for its final game before Major League Soccer pauses for the FIFA World Cup break. The team will travel to face LAFC on Sunday, May 24.
