The Seattle Council has invested millions of dollars into COVID-19 rehabilitation and its latest investment is designed to not only build upon past investment but shore up city budgets.
The council has extended $45 million into programs while making sure the city will have enough emergency funding to address any shortfalls for the 2020 and 2021 budgets, the city of Seattle reported in a press release. The city has already invested $233 million into its coronavirus response.
The $45 million will be distributed in two increments with the first $21.25 million in 2020 and the remainder in 2021. The plan leads $50 million to address any budget shortfall and emergencies. The city is investing in a number of programs with $9 million each in immigrant and refugee communities and language access and grocery vouchers. Other programs include rental assistance, small businesses, childcare, human service providers and public health resources, according to the press release.
Should additional federal funding become available these program could be expanded or new programs developed.
