Seattle University issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.
For the fifth year in a row, Seattle University has earned the Tree Campus Higher Education designation from the Arbor Day Foundation program.
This special recognition honors colleges and universities for promoting healthy trees while engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. Thanks to the leadership of Grounds Manager Shannon Britton and the efforts of the Grounds staff and students, Seattle University has met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry, which include:
- Establishment of a tree advisory committee
- Evidence of a campus tree care plan
- Dedicated annual expenditures for a campus tree program
- An Arbor Day observance
- Sponsorship of student service-learning projects
