Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement on Feb 18.
The Move Ahead Washington transportation package would make investments to finish projects we have started (like Connecting Washington) while also investing in preservation and maintenance, multimodal transportation, ferries, and ferry and fleet electrification. If you want to support the passage of a transportation package, you can send a supportive message here. It takes less than a minute.
On February 15, the Senate passed the Move Ahead Washington funding proposal off the floor. On February 17, the House Transportation Committee held a public hearing on the Move Ahead Washington transportation funding proposal.
The Seattle Metro Chamber has testified in support of the transportation funding package in both the House and Senate. You can find our Senate testimony from Rachel Smith, President and CEO, at 1:29:30 here and our House testimony from Alicia Teel, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, at 2:35:30 here.
At the Chamber, we believe an equitable, accessible, affordable, and resilient transit system is mission critical to creating a healthy and vibrate economy. Passing a transportation package this session is critical to our region’s economic recovery efforts.
We greatly appreciate the proposed investments including the inclusion of $150 million for high-speed rail. Increased mobility options focusing on historically underserved and unserved communities help ensure that no one’s economic opportunity is contingent upon owning or accessing a car. With employers in our region beginning to announce return-to-office dates, our region will rely on these investments to promote mobility and reach our climate goals.
Move Ahead Washington also provides crucial maintenance and preservation dollars that will allow us to keep keystone infrastructure in a state of good repair and facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods through our state.
