Join us for a talk given by Dr. Bruce Balick!
Abstract: For the past 30 years the Hubble Space Telescope has fostered or revolutionized one field of astronomical research after another. Now the James Webb Telescope is
poised to do the same. In this talk Balick will briefly review the messy history of Webb’s design, construction, and funding. Then we shall follow at its picture perfect launch and
deployment, present its first scientific images, and explore its scientific promise and potential in a field whose research scope is set to explode once more.
