The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce issued a statement regarding the City of Seattle's economic and revenue forecast that was reviewed by the Seattle City Council on
Aug. 17.
“The revenues and expenditures of a government budget are not a series of inevitabilities – they are choices, and the choices Seattle city leaders make to balance the 2023 city
budget must align with the priorities of the voters in the form of visible, sustained progress on top issues – including public safety, homelessness and affordability – along with
delivering on the basics like transportation,” said Rachel Smith, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. “Today’s updated forecast confirms that
businesses are contributing over a quarter of a billion dollars per year in new revenue generated by the JumpStart Tax, and the city can use these funds to make progress on our
priorities.”
