The Basics
How long have you been at City Light? I’ve been at City Light since late 2018 and with the City since 1997 where I previously worked in the City Budget Office and the Department of Facilities & Administrative Services.
Division: Energy Innovation & Resources (EIR) officer group
Tell us about your role. What does your job entail? Leading the EIR Business Unit’s administrative support team and supporting the business unit officer on tasks, including procurement and payment of invoices, hiring processes and employee onboarding, preparation of proposed legislation, and budget development and financial management for the business unit and its divisions.
Background
Hometown: Cambridge, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.
Alma Mater: Yale University (Bachelor of Arts, 1989), and University of California, Berkeley (master’s in public policy, 1993).
Discipline/Trade of study: Public Policy
Tell us about your family: I’m married with two kids, both girls, who are currently in college. One is a senior at Western Washington University, and the other, a sophomore, is at the University of Oregon. We recently lost our 12-year-old golden retriever, Sam, to old age, which has been really hard and reminds me to be present in the moment whenever possible.
Just for Fun
When you were younger, what was your dream job? Marine biologist or medieval historian.
What is the most rewarding part of your work at the utility? The overall sense of purpose and particularly the environmental stewardship element of City Light’s mission.
What is your favorite local restaurant? Either El Chupacabra or Pete’s Eggnest, both in the Phinney/Greenwood neighborhood.
How do you prefer to start/end your day? With a run in the morning and a Kraken or Sounders game on TV (or better yet, in person) in the evening.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? Out for a bike ride, playing guitar, or, as the weather improves, walking stairs or playing pickleball or tennis with my wife, Kris. I also just completed in early April 2023 a run of five shows performing Monty Python’s ‘Spamalot’ at the Shoreline Community Theater with the Woodland Park Players, a community theater group in northwest Seattle.
