Monday, police stopped a speeding vehicle along Rainier Avenue South.

Officers initiated the traffic stop near 68th Avenue South and Rainier Avenue South around 6:00 p.m. Police contacted the driver and noticed the man had an empty firearm holster on his waistband.

When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, officers observed two loaded magazines inside a pocket of the man’s shorts. The man told officers the firearm was located under the driver’s seat.

After a records check of the driver was conducted, it was discovered the man was a convicted felon. The 36-year-old male was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and later booked into King County Jail.

Police submitted the firearm, magazines, and ammunition into evidence. The vehicle was returned to the registered owner.
