A near month long investigation involving stolen vehicles and attempted assault on officers ended in back-to-back arrests of both suspects late last week.

On May 19, 2023, second watch North Precinct officers went to contact a male and female standing in a church parking lot next to two suspicious vehicles, neither of which had license plates. As police moved in, the female got into a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and drove away, while the male was told to remain on scene.

The white truck circled back into the parking lot and drove towards officers as the male ran and tried to get into the truck. Police were able to grab onto the man to take him into custody. The female drove the truck straight at officers and stopped short of striking them, then threatened to run over police if the male was not released. As she continued to lurch forward with the truck toward officers, he was able to break free and jumped into the bed of the truck, which then sped away.

No officers were injured, and police confirmed the vehicle left at the scene was stolen out of Renton.

On June 8, members of the SPD Community Response Group located a stolen Honda Accord in the 1100 block of NW 54th Street. They followed it until the driver parked and exited the vehicle. Officers took the driver into custody and recognized him as the male from the first incident. The suspect had parked next to a white pickup truck which police confirmed as stolen and involved in the first incident.

Police booked the 40-year-old man into the King County Jail for two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The Honda and pickup truck were impounded for further processing.

On June 9, just after 8 p.m., CRG officers located another stolen vehicle in the 4300 block of 7th Avenue NE and tied it to the wanted female. They watched as she exited a nearby residence, noting she was wearing a gray wig and sunglasses in an attempt to disguise her appearance.

The female walked to the stolen vehicle and got into the driver’s seat. As officers moved in to arrest her, she attempted to put the vehicle in gear to drive away but was unsuccessful.

Police confirmed her identity and involvement in the first incident, then booked the 34-year-old woman into the King County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony assault.
