The Washington Huskies men’s baseball team defeated Saint Martin’s 13-1 in a seven-inning game on March 17. The win brings the Huskies’ record to 9-11, with the team now having won eight of their last ten games.
The game saw strong offensive performances from Braeden Terry and Jackson Hotchkiss. Terry hit a three-run home run in the second inning, helping the Huskies score five runs early. In the third inning, Hotchkiss hit a grand slam, marking the team’s first bases-loaded home run of the season. Despite starting only eight games this season, Hotchkiss has four home runs—tied for second most on the team—and is currently batting .471.
Washington added three more runs in the fifth inning to reach a total of 13 for the game. On defense, Husky pitchers limited Saint Martin’s to six hits and one run. Jay Miller started on the mound, allowing three hits and one run. Jaxson Gore earned the win after pitching 2.2 innings with just one hit allowed and six strikeouts. Peysen Sweeney, Tyler Walker, and Tommy Brandenburg combined to pitch the final two innings, striking out four batters.
Alex Perason made his season debut during this game and recorded his first RBI as a Husky after being hit by a pitch with bases loaded.
The Huskies will return to action this weekend as they begin Big Ten play at USC with a three-game series starting Friday night in Los Angeles.
