Julio Rodríguez and Josh Naylor of the Seattle Mariners found themselves at the center of an unusual moment during the Mariners-Angels game on April 4. In the top of the 10th inning, with a runner on third base and two outs, Rodríguez came to bat as Seattle looked to extend its narrow 1-0 lead.

The incident occurred when Rodríguez did not realize that he had been intentionally walked by the Angels. As a result, both Rodríguez and Naylor, who was next in the batting order, approached home plate at the same time. This led to a brief scene where two Mariners stood in each batter’s box simultaneously.

Rodríguez appeared confused about why his teammate joined him at home plate before realizing what had happened and proceeding to first base. The situation quickly resolved itself after a wild pitch allowed Rodríguez to advance to second base.

Naylor then delivered a two-run single, increasing Seattle’s lead to 3-0. The Mariners went on to secure a 3-1 victory over the Angels.

Such moments are rare in Major League Baseball but serve as reminders of how quickly confusion can arise even among professional athletes.
