College football is among the most prominent sports in the U.S., with certain college teams sometimes surpassing NFL teams in attendance and earnings.

U.S. college athletics entered a significant period of athlete compensation following a federal settlement that enabled schools to share revenue with players directly for the first time. This settlement also requires the NCAA to distribute $2.8 billion in back damages over a decade to athletes who competed from 2016 onward.
