Washington has added Gonzaga transfer Steele Venters to its men’s basketball roster, head coach Danny Sprinkle announced on Apr. 22.
The move is significant for the Huskies as they continue to strengthen their team through the transfer portal. Venters brings experience and a strong shooting ability, which could contribute to Washington’s performance in the upcoming season.
Sprinkle said, “Obviously, Steele’s had some injuries but he was healthy this past year. Coming off of the two injuries that he had is not easy and for him to still be able to start almost half the games on a really good Gonzaga team, it shows how he rebounded. Now, it’s getting back to his form at Eastern Washington for his senior year. I saw it first-hand when I was at Montana State.” He added about Venters’ abilities: “He’s an elite shooter and you always have to be aware of him. He has great size at 6-7, maybe even close to 6-8. He gets his shot off extremely fast. He’s one of those guys that you see in the Big Ten at schools like Illinois and Wisconsin and Iowa and places like that. We need him to get back to his form at Eastern Washington, playing with confidence and knocking down threes at a high level.”
Venters appeared in 27 games during the 2025-26 season with Gonzaga after missing two seasons due to injury. He averaged five points per game in just over fifteen minutes per contest while making ten starts for the Bulldogs.
Before joining Gonzaga, Venters played at Eastern Washington where he rose from walk-on status to being named Big Sky Most Valuable Player in 2022-23 as well as earning Second Team All-Big Sky honors as a sophomore.
