The Washington Huskies men’s baseball team defeated No. 13 Oregon by a score of 9-5 in the series finale on Sunday, May 3.
The victory improves Washington’s record to 21-26 overall and 10-14 in Big Ten play. The Huskies took an early lead in the first inning when Jackson Hotchkiss singled and Sam DeCarlo hit his seventh home run of the season, giving Washington a quick two-run advantage.
Hayden Lewis started for the Huskies and pitched eight innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out eight batters. After surrendering one run in the second inning, Lewis kept Oregon off the scoreboard for five consecutive frames.
Washington extended its lead during a lengthy sixth inning, scoring seven runs over a span of thirty-six minutes. Braeden Terry drove in a run with an RBI single before Aidan Dougherty and Casen Taggart each added sacrifice flies. Hotchkiss hit his sixteenth home run of the season—a solo shot—followed by Blake Wilson’s three-run homer later in the inning. This marked the second-most runs allowed by Oregon in a single inning this season.
Oregon responded with three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth but could not close the gap as Bryce Johnson finished pitching for Washington, allowing two hits, one run, and recording one strikeout to secure the win.
DeCarlo led all Husky hitters with three hits on three at-bats while Hotchkiss, Ty Cowan, and Terry each contributed two hits apiece. The Huskies will next face Seattle University on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by their final regular-season road series against Penn State.
