The Washington beach volleyball team completed its weekend at the Longhorn Showdown in Austin, Texas, on April 4 with a win over Houston Christian and losses to Tulane and No. 3 Texas. The Huskies’ remaining Saturday match was canceled due to weather.
The event is significant for Washington as it faced tough competition, including a top-three ranked opponent, providing the team with valuable experience ahead of upcoming tournaments.
Washington started Friday strong by sweeping Houston Christian 5–0. Emma Hohenauer and Katarina Pantovic led the way on court one with a straight-set victory. Avery Towne and Alina Urzua secured the first point on court five, followed by Mayamay Brown and Zoe Pabarcus on court four. Ella Tyus and Sarah Wilcock added another win on court three, while Niki Egan and Mariana Tomasova won a three-set battle on court two to complete the sweep.
Later that day, Washington fell to Tulane 4–1. Tulane claimed early wins on courts four and five before securing victories on courts one and two to clinch the dual. The Huskies’ only point came from Tyus and Wilcock’s straight-set win on court three.
In their final match of Friday, Washington faced No. 3 Texas but lost 5–0 as Texas took all five courts, including a close three-set contest on court one.
The Huskies were scheduled for additional matches Saturday; however, all remaining contests were canceled due to inclement weather.
Looking ahead, Washington will compete at the Boise State Beach Bash starting Friday, April 10 in Boise, Idaho. They are set to play South Florida first before facing Grand Canyon later that day. On Sunday, they will take on Florida International followed by host Boise State.
