The University of Washington announced on Apr. 2 that it has extended the contract of women’s basketball head coach Tina Langley through the 2032 season.

The extension reflects the university’s commitment to stability and leadership within its athletic programs, aiming to continue recent successes in women’s basketball.

Pat Chun, Director of Athletics, said, “Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women’s basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley. She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established.”

Since taking over as head coach in April 2021, Langley has overseen steady growth for the Huskies. The team achieved one of its most significant turnarounds between her first and second seasons and recorded its best start in program history in 2023. Under her guidance, Washington secured three consecutive Top-15 recruiting classes—including two McDonald’s All-Americans—and reached back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances after joining the Big Ten Conference. The Huskies also developed five All-Conference players and produced their first WNBA Draft pick since 2017.

Langley expressed gratitude for the support from university leadership: “I’m so grateful to President Jones, Pat, Erin [O’Connell], and our entire administrative team for the opportunity to continue being a part of the amazing community here at Washington. Their wholehearted commitment and support of our student-athletes and entire program is deeply felt,” she said. “It is an honor and a blessing to serve alongside such a high-character group of young women and outstanding coaching staff. Washington is a special place, and we are so excited for what’s to come.” Last season’s total of 22 victories was Washington’s highest since 2016-17.

Langley’s approach emphasizes personal development alongside competition, with a mission focused on developing servant leaders among student-athletes. Before joining Washington as its twelfth head coach in April 2021, she led Rice University through its most successful five-year period.

The contract extension signals ongoing investment by the University of Washington in continuity across athletics while supporting further growth under Langley’s leadership.
