The Washington Huskies baseball team lost to Michigan State 13-8 at Husky Ballpark on April 18, despite hitting two home runs during the game.
The loss puts Washington at a record of 16-22 overall and 7-10 in Big Ten play. The game saw the Spartans take an early six-run lead, but senior Casen Taggart helped close the gap with a three-run home run in the second inning. This was Taggart’s first home run since February and traveled 404 feet to deep right field.
Jackson Hotchkiss added another highlight for Washington with his team-leading twelfth home run of the season in the seventh inning, sending a ball 392 feet to center field. Despite these efforts, Washington could not keep pace with Michigan State’s offense.
Pitchers Liam Lierman, Bryce Johnson, and Jack Wade combined for four scoreless innings in relief to finish out the contest. Hotchkiss led all Husky hitters with three hits and two runs scored, while Taggart recorded three RBIs. Sam DeCarlo, Blake Wilson, and Ethan Swidler also contributed multiple hits each.
The Huskies will try to rebound in their series finale against Michigan State scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
