The Washington Huskies lost to Gonzaga by a score of 8-5 at Husky Ballpark, according to an April 7 announcement. Colton Bower hit his eighth home run of the season, but the team was unable to hold off the Bulldogs in the later innings.

The game drew local elementary school classes, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere for the midday matchup. The Huskies began strongly, scoring two runs in both the first and second innings. Mic Paul started the scoring with a two-run double down the left line in the opening frame.

Bower extended Washington’s lead with a solo home run in the second inning that traveled 379 feet and left his bat at 103 miles per hour. Starting pitcher Jackson Thomas allowed two runs over four innings, recording six hits, two walks, and two strikeouts before being relieved by Carson Boesel for the fifth and sixth innings. During this stretch, Gonzaga managed to tie up the game.

In the seventh inning, Blake Wilson gave Washington a brief lead with a bases-loaded walk that made it 5-4. However, Gonzaga scored four runs off Bryce Johnson in the eighth inning to secure their victory.

Jackson Hotchkiss led Husky hitters by going two-for-four with a double and one run scored. Sam DeCarlo and Mic Paul also contributed doubles during the game.

Looking ahead, Washington will return to Big Ten play on Friday when they travel to Minnesota for a series beginning at 4 p.m.
