The Washington Huskies lost the final game of their baseball series against Valparaiso 4-2 on April 4 at Husky Ballpark, though they secured the overall series win with victories earlier in the week.
The outcome moves the Huskies to a season record of 15-16. The result matters as it reflects both strengths and ongoing challenges for the team as they approach upcoming games.
Pitcher Hayden Lewis started for Washington, allowing three hits and two runs through six innings before giving up three more hits and two additional runs in the seventh. He completed his outing with six hits, four runs, two walks, and six strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Carson Boesel finished out the game by pitching 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and allowing two hits.
Offensively, Washington collected six hits and drew three walks but left ten runners stranded on base during the contest. Ethan Swidler led all hitters with two hits including a double, while Sam DeCarlo also contributed a double and scored one of Washington’s two runs.
Despite this loss, individual performances stand out for Washington this season: Jackson Hotchkiss leads in batting average (.372), slugging percentage (.795), and on-base percentage (.429). Tommy Brandenburg holds the team’s best earned run average at 2.63 across twelve appearances—two as starts—and has recorded half of Washington’s four saves so far this year.
Looking ahead, Washington will host Gonzaga for back-to-back games at Husky Ballpark scheduled for Monday evening at 5 p.m. and Tuesday afternoon at noon.
