The University of Washington men’s tennis team lost to second-ranked Ohio State by a score of 4-0 in a conference match on April 12. The defeat leaves the Huskies with an overall record of 8-15 and a Big Ten record of 2-9 this season.

This result is significant as it marks another challenging outing for Washington, which faced one of the top teams in collegiate tennis. The Buckeyes, who lead the all-time series against Washington, maintained their dominance during this encounter.

In doubles play, all three Husky pairings competed against ranked opponents from Ohio State. The Buckeyes took an early advantage and secured the doubles point by winning two out of three matches. In singles competition, Ohio State’s lineup featured ranked players at each of the top four positions. Rohan Belday faced his first ranked singles opponent this season but was defeated along with teammates Brett Pearson and Nikola Plavsic in completed matches. Other singles contests involving Soham Purohit, Stephane Kamendje, and Hyeonseok Seo were left unfinished as Ohio State clinched victory after three wins.

The Huskies will close out their spring schedule with two home matches at Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium next week: against USC on Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m., and UCLA on Sunday, April 19 at noon.

Looking ahead, these final home matches provide an opportunity for Washington to finish its season on a positive note before turning attention to future competitions.
