This series is significant as Washington continues its campaign in the Big Ten Conference, where it has remained unbeaten in home conference series since joining last season. The Huskies are looking to build on recent successes, including strong performances both offensively and defensively.
Jackson Hotchkiss has been a standout player for Washington, leading the team with a .361 batting average and topping several offensive categories such as slugging percentage (.773), on-base percentage (.435), home runs (11), and multi-hit games (12). Hotchkiss ranks sixth in the Big Ten and 60th nationally in total home runs this season. Landon Young contributed Washington’s thirteenth triple of the year against Minnesota, placing the team eighth nationally in triples.
On the pitching side, Noah Kenney recently earned national recognition by being named to Baseball America’s National Team of the Week after throwing seven shutout innings with a career-high fourteen strikeouts against Valparaiso. The Husky pitching staff is ranked among national leaders in several categories including strikeout-to-walk ratio (57th), walks allowed per nine innings (62nd), strikeouts per nine innings (75th), and WHIP (67th).
Eddie Smith is serving his second season as head coach after being named to lead University of Washington baseball on July 9, 2024. Under Smith’s guidance, eighteen players have made their first career appearances this season.
Looking ahead, all three games between Washington and UCLA scheduled for May will be broadcast on Big Ten Network with adjusted start times due to television coverage. As they continue their schedule, the Huskies aim to maintain their momentum both at home and within conference play.
