The University of Washington men’s tennis team lost 4-0 to No. 34 Wisconsin in a Big Ten match on March 29. The contest took place at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. With this defeat, Washington’s season record stands at eight wins and ten losses overall, and two wins with five losses in conference play.

This match is significant as it marks another challenge for the Huskies during their first season competing in the Big Ten Conference. The result also updates the all-time series between these teams, with Washington still leading Wisconsin five matches to three.

In doubles play, Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit, ranked No. 89 nationally as a pair, secured a win against Olsson and Zlatohlavek from Wisconsin by a score of 6-4. However, Washington dropped the other two doubles matches, including a close loss by Rohan Belday and Stephane Kamendje who fell 7-5 to Fullerton and Meszaros.

During singles competition, Nikola Plavsic made his third start at the No. 6 position for Washington but was defeated by Sachiv Kumar of Wisconsin. Stephane Kamendje had a strong showing against Michael Minasyan—ranked No. 75 nationally—and was leading before their match was called unfinished (DNF) while up one set and ahead in the second set. Freshman Hyeonseok Seo was also leading his opponent when his match ended unfinished.

Looking ahead, Washington will return home next weekend for matches against Michigan State on April 3 at Quillian Tennis Stadium and Michigan on April 5.
