The University of Washington men’s tennis team lost 4-0 to No. 20 Michigan State on April 3, bringing their season record to 8-12 and their Big Ten conference record to 2-6. The match took place at the Quillian Tennis Stadium in Seattle.

This result affects the Huskies’ standing as they approach the end of the regular season and look for opportunities to improve their performance in upcoming matches.

During doubles play, Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit secured a notable win over Michigan State’s No. 27-ranked pair, marking their first ranked victory as a duo this season. Despite this success, Washington ultimately dropped the doubles point after losing two close tiebreak matches.

In singles competition, Nikola Plavsic started at the No. 6 position for his fourth time this year, replacing Daniel Bien who was out due to a lower body injury. Three Huskies—Rohan Belday, Hyeonseok Seo, and Plavsic—won their opening sets with scores of 6-4 or 6-3. However, Michigan State clinched victories on other courts before several remaining matches could finish.

The all-time series between Washington and Michigan State is now tied at two wins each following this second meeting of the season. The Huskies will next face No. 45 Michigan on Sunday at noon at home.

Looking ahead, Washington aims to rebound from this loss as they continue Big Ten play.
