The University of Washington Men’s Tennis Team lost a close Big Ten conference match 4-3 to Penn State on April 10. With this defeat, Washington’s season record stands at 8-14 overall and 2-8 in Big Ten play. The Huskies are scheduled to face second-ranked Ohio State on Sunday, April 12, in Columbus, Ohio.

The match saw Washington secure the doubles point for the fifth time in their last eight matches. Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson, recently ranked No. 45 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), won at No. 1 doubles, while Stephane Kamendje and Rohan Belday clinched another victory at No. 3 doubles. This marks only the second occasion during Big Ten play this season that Washington has claimed consecutive points from doubles competition.

In singles action, Kamendje ended a five-match winless streak with a straight-set victory over his opponent, winning 6-4, 7-6(1). Purohit also broke his own three-match losing streak by defeating Penn State’s top player Michael Wright with scores of 6-3, 7-6(3). Despite these successes and Pearson forcing a decisive third set after coming back from behind in his singles match against David Lindsay, Penn State ultimately secured the win by taking the final singles point.

The detailed results show that while Washington took early leads through doubles and key singles wins from Kamendje and Purohit, Penn State managed to claim four out of six singles matches overall.

Looking ahead, the Huskies will compete against Ohio State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center on April 12 at 9 am Pacific Time.
