Washington softball comes back to defeat Michigan 7-4

The No. 17 Washington softball team defeated Michigan 7-4 at Hutchins Stadium on March 21, overcoming an early four-run deficit to secure their eighth Big Ten win of the season.

This victory allowed Washington to clinch the series against Michigan and improve their conference record to 8-0. The Huskies now hold a season record of 25-6.

Michigan took an early lead with a solo home run in the second inning, followed by a two-run homer and another run in the third, putting them ahead 4-0. Washington responded in the fourth inning when Sophi Mazzola hit a three-run home run, narrowing the gap to one run. Giselle Alvarez then tied the game with an RBI double that brought Alexis DeBoer home.

Melody Acevedo gave Washington its first lead of the afternoon with her second home run of the season, driving in two runs. In pitching, Ryan Maddox and Allie Thomsen both saw time on the mound before Morgan Reimer entered in the bottom of the fourth and earned her sixteenth win of the year. Reimer pitched four innings and recorded five strikeouts as Washington secured its twenty-fifth win this season.

The series finale between Washington and Michigan is scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time/noon Eastern Time.
