The No. 17 Washington softball team defeated Michigan 9-7 on Mar. 20, earning its seventh consecutive Big Ten victory and first conference win on the road this season.

The game was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the night. Morgan Reimer secured her 15th win of the year for Washington, while Michigan’s defense struggled, committing a season-high four errors.

Ava Carroll led the Huskies’ offense by going three-for-three at the plate, including an early single in the first inning that brought in Giselle Alvarez and Jadyn Glab to give Washington an initial lead. Michigan responded by scoring one run in the second inning and taking a brief lead in the third with a two-RBI double.

Kaycie Burdick contributed with two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning that scored Carroll. Alexis DeBoer also drove in a run with a bases-loaded single, and Alvarez added a sacrifice fly to extend Washington’s advantage. Despite Michigan narrowing the gap several times—including home runs in both the sixth and final innings—the Huskies maintained their edge until the end.

Washington will face Michigan again in game two of their series on Saturday at Hutchins Stadium.
