The Washington softball team lost to Ohio State, 5-4, in the opening game of their series on May 1. The matchup took place at Buckeye Field and saw Washington nearly stage a comeback before falling short.

This result is significant as it affects the team’s standing in the Big Ten, with Washington now holding a record of 34-16 overall and 15-7 in conference play. The outcome also sets the tone for the remainder of the series against Ohio State.

Both teams were scoreless through two innings until Ohio State scored five runs in the third inning. The Buckeyes walked in two runs and then added an RBI double and an RBI single to take a quick lead. Washington responded with home runs from Giselle Alvarez, who hit her fifteenth homer of the season for two runs in the fifth inning, and Alexis DeBoer, who hit her seventeenth homer for another two runs in the seventh.

Pitcher Rylee Rehbein contributed by recording a season-high five strikeouts while allowing only one walk and one hit over three-and-two-thirds innings. Marley Teasley also had a strong performance at bat, going two-for-three with two singles and scoring once.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Big Ten Plus. Fans can follow updates through official social media channels or download related mobile applications for more information.
