The No. 22 Washington Huskies softball team lost to No. 7 UCLA by a score of 7-5 at Husky Softball Stadium on April 24, ending their undefeated home record for the season and marking their fourth consecutive Big Ten defeat.

This result is significant as it represents both the team’s first home loss this year and a continuation of their recent struggles in conference play.

Ava Carroll was the only Washington player with multiple hits, recording two singles during the game. The Huskies trailed early after allowing three home runs in the first four innings. Mila Reddy put Washington on the scoreboard with her first career home run in the fifth inning, sending a shot to center field.

UCLA extended its lead with an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning. In response, Jadyn Glab started a rally for Washington with a single, followed by Gabi Toney being hit by a pitch and Reddy drawing a walk to load the bases. Sophi Mazzola then hit a three-RBI double, narrowing UCLA’s lead to one run. Kaycie Burdick tied the game at five runs each with another double but was thrown out attempting to reach third base.

The Bruins regained control in the seventh inning when they hit their second two-run homer of the night, sealing their victory as two players finished with multiple home runs for UCLA.

Game two of this series is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at Husky Softball Stadium and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
