The No. 14 Washington softball team lost to Saint Mary’s in an 11-inning game on Apr. 3, falling 2-3 at Stanford Softball Stadium.

This loss marks the team’s second defeat of the week against the Gaels. The extended match saw both teams battling through extra innings before a home run by Saint Mary’s in the top of the eleventh inning decided the outcome.

Morgan Reimer pitched a complete game for Washington, recording ten strikeouts. This was her third career game with double-digit strikeouts and her first such performance this season. Giselle Alvarez contributed significantly on offense, hitting her thirteenth home run of the season and adding an RBI double that tied the score earlier in the contest.

Saint Mary’s took an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning. Alvarez’s solo home run in the fourth brought Washington closer, and her double later tied up the game as both teams continued to exchange plays into extra innings.

Washington is scheduled to play its final tournament game on Saturday against No. 24 Stanford, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Stanford Softball Stadium.

The result reflects ongoing competition among top-ranked collegiate softball teams as they approach key matchups late in their season.
