The No. 14 Washington Huskies softball team split two games at Stanford on April 2, falling to Saint Mary’s 5-2 before defeating No. 24 Stanford 6-3.

The doubleheader marked the end of a long winning streak for Washington, which had not lost since Feb. 22 and entered the day on a run of 20 consecutive victories. The team had also won all its games in March.

In the first game against Saint Mary’s, Washington managed only three hits. Alexis DeBoer hit her thirteenth home run of the season in the fourth inning for Washington’s first hit and run, while Ava Carroll doubled to bring in Giselle Alvarez for another score. However, Saint Mary’s rallied late with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure an upset victory over the Huskies.

The second game saw Washington rebound with a win over nationally ranked Stanford. Pitcher Morgan Reimer earned her twentieth win of the season by throwing seven innings with two strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. The Huskies took an early lead after singles from Alvarez and Jadyn Glab brought in runs during the opening frame. Despite some scoring by Stanford—including a triple and a home run—Washington regained control as Ally Hetzel drove in another run and Carroll added her second RBI double of the day. Glab’s eighth home run sealed a three-run margin for Washington.

Washington is scheduled to return to Stanford Softball Stadium for another matchup against Saint Mary’s on Friday at 2 p.m.
