The No. 19 Washington Huskies softball team defeated Minnesota 6-1 on April 12, completing a series sweep at Husky Softball Stadium.

This win marks the Huskies’ fifteenth consecutive conference victory, which ties for the fourth longest winning streak in Big Ten history. With this result, Washington has clinched a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.

Minnesota scored first with an RBI double in the top of the opening inning, but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Morgan Reimer earned her twenty-second win of the season by pitching a complete game, allowing just one run on nine hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Giselle Alvarez led Washington’s offense by going three-for-four at bat and collecting two runs batted in during the series finale. Kaycie Burdick reached base as leadoff before Alvarez hit an RBI double to bring home Washington’s first run in their half of the first inning. In the second inning, Alexis DeBoer contributed an RBI single that scored Sophi Mazzola after her bunt single. Alvarez added another RBI single and later hit an RBI double to extend Washington’s lead.

Both teams were held scoreless through third and fourth innings before Melody Acevedo drove in another run for Washington with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Ava Carroll finished two-for-four and brought home pinch runner Tia Durst with her second hit—a sixth-inning RBI single.

Washington will travel to play former Pac-12 rival Oregon for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 17, in Eugene.
