The Washington softball team will begin its NCAA postseason run with a matchup against South Florida on May 15, as part of the Fayetteville Regional hosted at Bogle Park on the University of Arkansas campus. The Huskies are making their 32nd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals, which is tied with Oklahoma for the longest active streak in college softball.
This opening game marks an important milestone for Washington, who finished the season with a record of 36-18 overall and 16-8 in Big Ten play. The winner between Washington and South Florida will advance to play either Arkansas or Fordham on Saturday. The regional tournament follows a double-elimination format through Sunday, May 17.
The Huskies have demonstrated strong offensive performance this season, achieving their highest win total since 2023 and recording significant statistics including most walks since 2016 and most runs since 2018. Several players have earned conference honors: Alexis DeBoer was named to both the Big Ten First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team; Giselle Alvarez made First Team All-Conference; Morgan Reimer was named Second Team; Melody Acevedo and Kaycie Burdick were recognized on the All-Freshman Team; Tia Durst received the Sportsmanship Award.
Washington’s history against its regional opponents is favorable. They hold a winning record against South Florida (3-1), last defeating them at the South Florida Showdown in Tampa in 2024. Against Arkansas, they are undefeated (5-0), having last met during a tournament in Puerto Vallarta in 2022. Versus Fordham, Washington has won both previous encounters.
In addition to individual accolades throughout March and April—including national pitcher awards for Reimer and Ramuno—the Huskies achieved several notable sweeps within conference play and maintained an impressive home attendance ranking nationally during recent seasons. This year also marks their second season competing as members of the Big Ten Conference.
Looking ahead, Washington aims to extend its postseason run by building on its consistent regular-season success as it faces strong competition from regional opponents.
