The No. 19 Washington softball team defeated Minnesota 8-6 on April 10 at Husky Softball Stadium, marking its return to Montlake in front of a crowd of 1,469 fans.

This victory gave Washington its thirteenth Big Ten win of the season, which is the most since joining the conference two years ago. The result keeps the Huskies undefeated in Big Ten play with a record of 13-0 and an overall record of 32-9.

Four Washington players recorded multiple hits during the game. Kaycie Burdick led as leadoff hitter with three hits out of four at-bats. Alexis DeBoer hit her fourteenth home run of the season in the third inning, driving in three runs and giving Washington an early lead.

Minnesota responded by scoring two runs in the fourth inning through a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout, bringing the score to 3-2. However, Washington extended its lead with four runs in the bottom half of that inning. Ava Carroll started things off with an infield single, followed by contributions from Melody Acevedo and Sophi Mazzola that loaded the bases. Marley Teasley brought home another run on a fielder’s choice before Burdick added an RBI single and Teasley scored due to a Minnesota error.

Minnesota narrowed the gap by scoring two runs each in both the fifth and sixth innings, including a home run and several RBIs from doubles and singles. DeBoer secured her second hit—a run-scoring single—in the bottom of the sixth for Washington’s eighth run.

The series between Washington and Minnesota will continue on Saturday, April 11 at Husky Softball Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m., broadcast on Big Ten Network.
