Washington will play against Portland in a neutral site baseball game at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex, home of the Ridgefield Raptors, on April 21. The matchup will be available for viewing via YouTube Live and live statistics can be found at HuskyStats.com.
The game is notable as both teams meet at a Pacific Northwest location outside their usual home fields. Washington enters the contest with several players achieving career milestones and team rankings that place them among top programs nationally in several statistical categories.
Blake Wilson recently hit Washington’s 14th triple of the season, placing the team tenth nationally and first in the Big Ten Conference for triples per game. Jackson Hotchkiss leads Washington with a .342 batting average, .730 slugging percentage, and twelve home runs despite missing part of the season due to injury. The Huskies’ pitching staff has also performed well this year, ranking within the top one hundred teams nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (54th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (55th), WHIP (75th), and strikeouts per nine innings (82nd).
Eddie Smith is now in his second season as head coach after being named to lead University of Washington baseball on July 9, 2024. Under Smith’s guidance, several new players have made their debut this season while returning players like Tommy Brandenburg and Colton Bower have set personal records for saves and offensive output respectively.
The Huskies are scheduled to finish their regular season with a three-game series against UCLA that will be broadcast on Big Ten Network from May 14-16. Game times have been adjusted for television coverage.
Looking ahead, observers may watch how Washington continues its performance under Coach Smith as they approach key conference matchups and aim to improve upon last year’s fifth-place finish.
