The University of Washington women’s rowing team will compete at the 2026 NCAA Championships from May 29 to May 31 in Gainesville, Georgia, as the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on May 19 the field of 22 teams for this year’s regatta.
This selection marks Washington’s participation in every NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship since its inception, making it one of only three programs—along with Brown and Princeton—to have earned invitations to all 29 championships. The Huskies secured their spot by winning the Big Ten Championship last Sunday under head coach Yasmin Farooq, who is now in her tenth year leading the program.
For this year’s event, Washington earned a No. 9 seed in the first varsity eight, a No. 5 seed in the second varsity eight, and a No. 3 seed in the varsity four. The heats will take place on Friday, May 29 with semifinals scheduled for Saturday and grand finals set for Sunday morning. Lake Lanier serves as host venue; it previously hosted both Olympic rowing events and two earlier NCAA championships won by Washington.
Last year, Washington finished fourth overall at NCAAs and claimed silver medals in both second eights and fours races. Historically, Washington has won five NCAA team championships—including sweeping all three grand finals twice—and has consistently placed within the top ten each year.
Each participating school enters boats in three categories: first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four. Points are awarded based on placement across these races to determine an overall champion.
