The Washington women’s rowing team announced on May 11 that it will compete at the Big Ten Championships this weekend in Indianapolis, aiming to defend its conference title. The Huskies, currently ranked No. 4, won last year’s championship in their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference.

This event is significant as Washington seeks to continue its success after moving from the Pac-10/Pac-12 conferences, where it had a long history of victories. The team’s performance will determine whether they can maintain their dominance against other top programs.

Saturday’s heats are scheduled to air on Big Ten Plus, while Sunday’s finals will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. The championships are a ticketed event and further information for spectators is available through the official channels. Last season, Washington swept all seven grand finals at this regatta, becoming only the second team ever to do so.

The races will take place at the Indianapolis Rowing Center, a venue where Washington previously won both NCAA and conference titles. This year’s competition features eleven programs racing across seven categories: four eights and three fours events. Points from each race contribute toward determining the overall team champion.

Washington has an extensive record of success in collegiate rowing with nineteen conference championships since 1987 and eight additional titles prior to Pac-10 sponsorship for women’s rowing events. After this weekend’s championship meet, the Huskies plan two weeks of training ahead of competing at the NCAA Championships later in May.
