The University of Washington women’s rowing team announced on Mar. 19 that it will welcome 37 new athletes to its roster for the upcoming season, including three transfer students and 34 first-year students. The announcement comes ahead of the annual Class Day Regatta, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, on Montlake Cut.
The addition of these newcomers is significant as it brings fresh talent and depth to the program. The group includes athletes from across the United States and several other countries, reflecting the team’s broad recruiting reach.
Among the transfers are Jane Doyle from New York, who previously rowed at Holy Cross and earned All-Patriot League honors three times; Nienke Overgoor from Bunnik, Netherlands, who attended the University of Twente and competed at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships; and Ava Rothmeyer from Seattle, who transferred from Brown after medaling at NCAA competitions.
The incoming freshmen hail from various regions. Nine are from the greater Seattle area, with others coming from different parts of Washington state and across the Western U.S., including Oregon, Utah, and California. Several have family ties to collegiate or national rowing programs. International recruits include two Canadians, four athletes from the United Kingdom, two Australians, and one New Zealander. Many have competed at high levels in youth or international competitions such as World Rowing Under 19 Championships.
Fans will have an opportunity to see these new team members in action during the Class Day Regatta starting at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday.
