The No. 22 Washington women’s tennis team defeated No. 56 Penn State with a score of 4-2 on April 17 at the Sarni Tennis Center in University Park, Pennsylvania.

This win brings Washington’s season record to 18-3 overall and improves their Big Ten conference mark to 9-3. The match featured competitive play from both teams, with several singles matches going into three sets.

Washington secured the doubles point by winning two out of three matches. Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim won their match on Court 2 with a score of 7-5, while Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif claimed victory on Court 3, finishing at 6-3. The Huskies remain undefeated on the No. 2 doubles court this season.

Carter then put Washington ahead by winning her three-set battle (7-6(6), 0-6, 6-1) against Patricia Grigoras.

The deciding point came down to third sets on Courts 1 and 3. Erika Matsuda clinched the victory for Washington at the top spot after coming back from one set down to defeat Maelie Monfils (4-6, 6-2, 6-3). The remaining singles match was left unfinished.
