Washington women’s tennis defeats Wisconsin 4-1 on Senior Day

The No. 21 Washington women’s tennis team defeated No. 31 Wisconsin, 4-1, in its final home match of the regular season on April 12 at Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium.

The win brings Washington’s overall record to 17-3 and a conference record of 8-3. The Huskies completed an undefeated home regular season (12-0) for the first time since 2003.

Washington secured the doubles point with victories on Courts 2 and 3. After Wisconsin won Court 1 by a score of 6-0, Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim responded with a win on Court 2, finishing at 6-3. The Huskies remain unbeaten on the No. 2 doubles court this season. Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif clinched their match in a tiebreaker, winning Court 3 by a score of 7-6(4).

In singles play, Jacobs was first to finish for Washington with a decisive victory on Court 3 (6-0, 6-2). Wisconsin claimed its only point when Erika Matsuda fell to the nation’s No.19-ranked singles player on Court 1. Weissheim delivered another straight-set win for Washington (6-2, 6-1) on Court 4 to improve her personal singles record to an undefeated 14-0 this season. Sherif secured the match-clinching point for Washington with her victory (6-4, 6-0) on Court 5.

The Huskies will conclude their regular season with away matches at Penn State on April 17 and Ohio State on April 19 before competing in the Big Ten Tournament beginning April 23 in Columbus.
